The 10MeV/50kW high power electron irradiation accelerator developed by the Comprehensive Research Institute of Nuclear Technology of China Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has successfully produced beams with beam energy of 9.8MeV and beam power of 56.3kW, reaching the expected technical targets. The accelerator can run steadily for 4 hours without changing the operating parameters. This has laid a solid foundation for the research and development of the next generation of 100-kilowatt electron irradiation accelerator, provided important technical support for the upgrading and upgrading of radiation processing devices, and strongly promoted the development of national nuclear technology application industry.
In recent years, electron accelerators play an increasingly important role in irradiation sterilization field. During the epidemic, high energy and high power electron accelerators can greatly reduce the disinfection and sterilization time of medical devices and improve work efficiency. With the strong support of the higher authorities, the key project of nuclear energy development and scientific research declared by China Atomic Energy Institute -- "10MeV/50kW high-energy high-power electron irradiation accelerator" was approved, and the project team was actively organized to tackle key technical problems.
After sufficient technical demonstration and experimental verification, the team determined the two-cavity ridge accelerated structure scheme. During the implementation of the project, the team has overcome technical problems such as the formation of high-current micropulse electron beams with low emittance, dual-cavity resonance acceleration of high-stability high-current electron beams, precise control and efficient transmission of high-current electron beams, and overcome the influence of the epidemic on the development and commissioning of some equipment. We have mastered the whole process of R&D, design, key equipment development, installation and debugging, and stable operation of the accelerator, and finally developed the world's first double-cavity ridge accelerator. The accelerator adopts a new technical route, has the advantages of large output electron beam current intensity, high power, large upgrade space and so on. In the world, only IBA company in Belgium has successfully developed a similar model.
At present, the IAEA has the independent research and development capability of 2MeV/1kW, 2.5MeV/5kW, 5MeV/10kW, 10MeV/20kW and 10MeV/50kW electron accelerator type spectroscopy. In the future, the IAEA will continue to adhere to the "four faces" to develop higher energy and higher power electron accelerators to contribute to the development of our nuclear technology application industry.
