汾阳"Nuclear" power has helped Tibet

      On July 25, a groundbreaking ceremony was held in the Xigaze Economic Development Zone of Tibet Autonomous Region for the "Key Core technologies of Irradiation Sterilization of Tibetan Medicines and the Construction Project of Irradiation Sterilization Engineering Technology Center (hereinafter referred to as the Engineering Technology Center)", which was the first time for the Institute to set up irradiation technology application and related industries in the Qinghai-Tibet region.  It further demonstrates the hard "nuclear" strength of nuclear technology application and industrial development of IAEA.  Huang Ping, Deputy Director General of the China Atomic Energy Authority;  Wang Junjie, Deputy Director General of the Science and Technology Department of the Tibet Autonomous Region;  Nyema Puchi, Deputy Mayor of Xigaze;  Zhang Yong, Deputy Director of the Tibetan Market Development Department of China National Nuclear Corporation;  Yue Weihong, Deputy Chief Engineer of the Atomic Energy Agency;  Officials from the Department of Industrial Development of the Atomic Energy Agency and the Comprehensive Research Institute of Nuclear Technology attended the groundbreaking ceremony.

      As a high-tech strategic industry, the application of nuclear technology is in a period of rapid development and can be widely used in industry, agriculture, medical treatment, environmental protection, public safety and other fields.  Under the guidance of the China Atomic Energy Authority and the vigorous promotion of the Tibet Autonomous Region Economy and Information Technology Department and the Xigaze Municipal Committee and Government, the IAEA actively responded to the call of the CPC Central Committee and The State Council on promoting high-quality economic development in Tibet, adhered to the "four faces", actively strengthened market connection,  and took the urgent needs of the development of the pillar industry of Tibetan medicine as the entry point.  It opens up the practical road of electron beam irradiation technology transformation and application in the field of Tibetan medicine.  As the first project to carry out research and development of plateau multi-energy electron irradiation accelerator device in China and research on radiation sterilization standards of Tibetan medicine, the Engineering Technology Center is committed to solving major issues related to microbial control in the development of Tibetan medicine industry, providing nuclear technology support for the development and growth of Tibetan medicine industry and people's life and health.  The construction and implementation of the project will effectively improve the added value of Tibetan medicine and the core competitiveness of Tibetan enterprises, and fill the gap in the electron beam irradiation processing industry in Tibet.

      In his speech, Huang Ping pointed out that the construction project of the irradiation sterilization engineering technology Center for Tibetan medicine on the Plateau is a good example of combining modern nuclear science and technology with traditional Tibetan medicine system.  The China Atomic Energy Authority will actively support the construction of the engineering technology center, break through the bottleneck restricting the inheritance and development of traditional Tibetan medicine, and promote the integrity, innovation and high-quality development of Tibetan medicine.  To make greater contribution to meeting the growing medical and health needs of the people.

      Yue Weihong said that entering the new stage of development, the IAEA has accelerated the application of scientific research results through the transformation of scientific and technological achievements and joint efforts between the institute and enterprises, opening a new situation of scientific and technological assistance to Tibet by research institutes.  In the future, the Institute will continue to adhere to the development concept of "openness, inclusiveness, cooperation and win-win", and make joint efforts with all parties to contribute to promoting the economic and social development of Tibet and expanding and strengthening the Tibetan medicine industry.

      It is reported that the engineering technology center will be mainly built by Shenmonkey Pharmaceutical, a well-known Tibetan medicine enterprise, and China Atomic Energy Agency and other units.  Recently, Shenmonkey Pharmaceutical has reached a cooperation agreement with Yuanke Henghui Technology Co., LTD., the irradiation accelerator industrialization platform established by China Atomic Energy Agency.  The two sides will arrange 10MeV irradiation accelerator facilities in batches in this project, and jointly promote the industrialization application of electron beam irradiation technology in the field of Tibetan medicine.
